Dear Mr. President,
Sir, how are you doing? I hope you are doing
well.
A president is the person who is in
charge of our country. He has a responsibility to administer our country in
such a way that it is a safe and pleasant environment for the people. He is in
charge of the people's safety. But, what exactly did you do? Did you truly
defend our country and its citizens? When you were elected president of our
country, we heard a lot about you from our friends. We expected you to be
different from our previous leaders, who were traditional politicians. We had
many friends who were opposed to you, but we wanted to give you a chance. Your
plans for the country appeared to be promising. We expected the Philippines to
be a better place to live with you as its leader. I admired you and was
impressed by how quickly you eliminated numerous drug lords and users in our
country in just six months. I admired you, but I was disturbed when I learned
that the police are under pressure to apprehend as many drug lords and users as
possible, and that the police have just arrested innocent persons in order to
complete their job. Because of your one objective, your pledge to the people,
many innocent men have been imprisoned.
As Filipinos, we had high hopes that
you would follow through on the pledges you made when running for president.
We've seen as you've handled various challenges that our country has faced and
continues to face over the years. You made smart decisions and took acts that
had fatal repercussions. When the COVID-19 pandemic began to spread in our
country, we hoped that you would be on top of things. But our hearts sank as we
watched you address your countrymen in light of the situation. We were
expecting more from you. Is it your age, or is it your health? Or maybe it's
the people around you? We have no idea. But we persisted in our faith and hope.
We have maintained our trust and respect for you because we believe that we are
obligated to honor our leaders. But heart breaking news flooded our social
media feeds one after the other. Aside from the growing number of COVID-19
positive cases in the Philippines, the inability of many Filipinos to receive
government assistance, front liners lacking adequate personal protective
equipment, POGOs still operating, and ordinary citizens being imprisoned for
violating quarantine measures while the wealthy are free to do so, a slew of
other factors prompted us to pray earnestly. And I hope that were youngsters
will be able to return to school and the rest of us will be free to move around
without fear of contracting the virus.
It must be difficult, especially at
your age, to lead a country of over 7,000 islands and over a hundred million
people. I recognize that this is a difficult time for our country as well as
the rest of the world. But I hope you will remember the promises you made
before taking the oath to lead our country. I hope you will consider the faces
of the many Filipinos who voted, trusted, and rooted for you. We had faith in
you. We continue to do so. And we will continue to believe and respect you,
even if we disagree with you on many occasions. We will pray for you so that
you can make wise decisions. We will pray for you to be a leader of
righteousness and justice. We pray for renewed zeal for the country and
compassion for your people. We pray for the grace to wake up each day knowing
that you have been given the opportunity to make a significant impact on the
nation you lead. We also declare that you are in perfect health.
Several Philippine presidents have
been deposed because they failed to lead the country well and chose to
prioritize their own interests over the needs of their people. This is not what
I want for you. My prayer is that you will redeem yourself, that you will prove
your detractors wrong, including those whose faith in you is dwindling. I hope
you finish your term with flying colors, even if the road ahead of you is bleak
and dark. Many people think and speak poorly of you, President Duterte. They
are clear to me. People are in pain. But, even though you've broken my
heart many times, speaking ill of you is the last thing I'll do because I know
you care about your people and want the best for them. I'm hoping for the best for you. All in all I wish you the best in the remaining years of your term. From one Filipino to another, let’s work together for a brighter tomorrow.
Student/ Citizen,
Krissa Leigh R. Trinidad

ReplyDeleteHi there! Our President is really of great influence and inspiration to the Filipino people, even if into the extend that they are question on how he implement the rules and regulations. But, it is for the good of his countrymen. Just like he always saying that, “I don’t do any harm to my country and my countrymen, I will protect my country from any wrong doings”… “Mr. President, you’re such a great leader”.
