Our Children’s Rights, a Challenge with a New Normal

Children are the future. Nurture them right, so that they grow up to be able leaders and lead the world towards light. – a tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru

Recognizing the pandemic's impact on children, the Department of Education (DepEd) has planned a series of activities to commemorate the 29th National Children's Month (NCM) this November. The national theme for this year's NCM is "New Normal na Walang Iwanan: Karapatan ng Bawat Bata Ating Tutukan," and the various activities planned by DepEd for this year's NCM focus on championing children's rights and welfare in the new normal. Neither the COVID-19 pandemic, nor the continuous community lockdowns will stop the Philippines from celebrating the 29th National Children’s Month (NCM) with the theme “New Normal na Walang Iwanan: Karapatan ng Bawat Bata Ating Tutukan!” this November, 2021. 2021 pose greater challenges as the country reels from the prolonged consequences of the pandemic. These challenges continue to aggravate underlying issues on children and threaten to undermine the collective efforts of the civil society in handling the pandemic. November is National Children’s Month (NCM). This year’s theme is “New Normal na Walang Iwanan: Karapatan ng Bawat Bata Ating Tutukan!” The annual celebration recognizes children as the nation’s most valuable assets and emphasizes the importance of their role within the Filipino family and Philippine society.   The theme is relevant in the context of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic as children are not spared from the potentially fatal infection.

Almost two years after the country was placed under lockdown, children all over the Philippines are experiencing an overwhelming sadness and anxiety that is unique to their generation. The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on our children, as families continue to grapple with the pandemic's socioeconomic consequences, which have threatened their livelihoods and limited their access to basic social services.

For underprivileged children who have not had the opportunity to attend school since the beginning of the pandemic, whether online or offline, the likelihood of returning to school decreases with each passing day. Out-of-school children, particularly girls, are more vulnerable to early marriages and teen pregnancies, as well as child abuse and gender-based violence.

The National Children’s Month is observed every November as part of state efforts to commemorate the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. This year, we are guided by the theme New Normal na Walang Iwanan: Karapatan ng Bawat Bata Ating Tutukan, placing an emphasis on making sure that the rights of every child are protected and upheld despite the constraints of the pandemic.

As the 2021 National Children's Month (NCM) is observed in November, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will seek to address the needs of children and how they can be better protected. In a statement issued on Monday, the DSWD stated that it will focus on the difficulties that children face in the new normal setting and address concerns about their rights to survival, development, protection, and participation. "The celebration will build on the achievements of previous NCM celebrations, which are based on the 3rd National Plan of Action for Children goals to gradually realize children's rights."

At the moment, recommendations and the vaccines to be used can vary by country for children and teens more than 5, 12, 16 or 18 years old. It is important to keep track of recommendations and guidance on vaccination as these may change in the future.  Similarly, a vaccination roll out by the Department Of Health was initiated lately among children ages 12-17.

As we navigate this rapidly changing situation, it is critical to stay up to date on the latest news, updates, and resources about the virus and its impact on children. End Violence is a global partnership that shares the most recent evidence, data, and information to protect children from COVID-19 and the associated risk of violence.

The COVID19 pandemic is wreaking havoc on the health, social, and material well-being of children all over the world, with the poorest children, including homeless children and children in detention, bearing the brunt of the damage. School closures, social isolation, and confinement increase children's risk of malnutrition, their exposure to domestic violence, their anxiety and stress, and their access to vital family and care services. Although widespread digitalisation reduces the education loss caused by school closures, the poorest children are the least likely to live in good home-learning environments with internet access. Furthermore, increased unsupervised internet use has heightened concerns about sexual exploitation and cyber bullying.

Immediate government action is required to ensure that children have access to nutritious food, are protected from child abuse and neglect, continue to have access to child physical and mental health services, and can navigate the internet safely. Policies must also encourage parental employment, which is critical in combating child poverty.

As a great challenge among children will try to hamper their lives, a more rounded influence that will intends to a resilient well-being during this new normal is expectedly wrapped out into reality.

Today, I have a great challenge.  I shall be a good influencer.  A GREAT Advocacy among children is waiting for.

THE COPE OF PRESENT EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM IN A DISRUPTION OF PANDEMIC

A MORE RESILIENT FILIPINO AMIDST OF PANDEMIC

The Philippines is a small Southeast Asian archipelago. It is a developing country with a population of over 109,884,228 people. Natural disasters occur on an annual basis, ranging from typhoons to earthquakes, flash floods, and volcanic eruptions, with or without warning. The area's development and progress have always been difficult. Surviving for months on end through hunger, sickness, and poor crisis management is being lauded as a sign of resilience in our country. It's no secret that the Filipinos have always taken pride in their ability to withstand earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and typhoon after typhoon. And, to be honest, why shouldn't they? Being able to recover quickly from adversity while also offering assistance and warmth to others is a feat that everyone should strive for. But the story changes when the trait you worked so hard to develop for  ourselves, and especially for our country, is used to cover up its demise.

An Open Letter: Our President, my Dear Leader

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte
Malacañang Palace
JP Laurel Street, San Miguel,
Manila 1005

Dear Mr. President,

Sir, how are you doing? I hope you are doing well.

“ I AM, MY INNER OUTLOOK”

T ’ was a break of dawn of 30th of June 2006, a furl of life embarks to unfold in the persons of me as well being. I am gladly to see wonders of world as a ray of sunrise which is to begin to light up the beauty of creation marked my beginning of life. As characterized by my parents traits, I was to be trained with a fear to Almighty God always. We are tend to commit ourselves with him and to become a believers. To be respectful to elders alluded significance of who I am today. I was sensitively a teen prototype but nearly a timid as evidenced by my short soft spoken persona.

I am who I am because I am the most familiar with myself. As a result, I'm going to talk about myself. Everyone may have different opinions about me, but I am the only one who knows my true self. This section contains information about my personality and my life dreams or goals that you may not be aware of. Aren't you curious about who I am? Do you want to know more?

If I had to define myself, I'd say I'm humble, with a benevolent, knowledgeable, optimistic, enthusiastic, and passionate personality. I have a creative and artistic ability. Drawing, painting, and even dance are skills I possess. Creative arts, including writing, music, painting and crafts are some of my favorite pastimes. I am a really compassionate person who enjoys looking after others and assisting them when they require assistance. When one of my loved ones becomes ill, I am naturally concerned and take care of them. I am a hardworking individual that is passionate about my work, projects, and school needs, and I always give it my all when responding my modules. Even though I have other things to do, I occasionally do the housework. And as for my life's dreams and goals, I work hard to achieve them.

Personally, I set goals ahead of time so that I may anticipate what I am living for now and in the future. First, I need to take a closer look at my professional background. My ambition is to work as an architect. I'm constantly excited to create new and intriguing structures that are futuristically trendy and fashionable. Of course, simply stating that I will be an architect in the future is easier said than done. To begin as a novice in the sector, you must have at least a professional bachelor's degree in Architecture. I cross my fingers that I will not give up in the middle of the journey. Aside from my ambition to become a future architect, I need someone to support me.

I am grateful   to boost my confidence, explore beyond negativity and to inclined my well being in order to achieve my goals and ambitions in life. How important that seeing my evolvements is believing a new fold of my success and story of my life. A quiet challenging and yet I must to do.
